GST

Hi,
The GST was 7% last year, is 6% this year, and will be 5% next year. So people like me and many others, who don't buy many taxable items for more than $10 usually, will save 20 cents on those 10 dollar purchases. Two dimes, big deal, right? BUT, those people that are buying $50 000 cars last year, compared to next year will save $1000 with that 2% GST drop. Pretty significant.

I also heard that bus fares will go way up over the next few years. I ride the bus, people that can't afford cars and take advantage of these savings ride the bus, and will be paying these fare increases over the next years.

Is it just me, or is this country doing everything they can to widen the gap between the rich and the poor?

happy holidays... again

Hi,
Again with the 'happy holidays'. I thought of a couple of things lately if the government doesn't want to offend anyone.

First of all, I thought if they want this equality, how come there's only two statutory holidays? Christmas and the day after. What about all the other holidays? After all, it should be happy holidays, right?

Secondly, do you think the muslims and islamic and jewish, etc. people care that we have to include them all, a girl with a hijab wished me a Merry Christmas yesterday.

Merry Christmas,

ho ho ho

Hi,
I heard the other day that some people are trying to get Santa to say "ha ha ha" instead of "ho ho ho", because it's offensive to women. He's not saying "you're a ho ho ho", so how is it offensive? What about the tool that weeds the garden? Maybe the name of that should be changed too!

What about the reindeer? Santa looks to be cruel to animals too. Must get rid of them. He should drive some kind of motorized vehicle. But not gas-powered, that would offend environmentalists. Good, clean, solar power. So he'd have to make his rounds during the day now. He shouldn't be fat either, that portrays an unhealthy image...

I can't wait 'til Christmas Day! Santa will come zooming by my house with his solar-powered sled, park in my driveway (he doesn't do chimneys anymore), he'll have dirty-blonde hair, clean-cut, clean-shaven, mid-40's... and he doesn't give presents anymore, because we don't want to portray to children that life is a free ride. He'll shake my hand, and be on his way in his environmentally-safe vehicle.

Merry Christmas.
